چکیده

A new transport property, the self-exchange velocity (SEV) of neighbouring unlike ions, has been evaluated from molecular dynamics simulations of molten LiCl, RbCl and LiRbCl2 at 1100 K and the mixture at 750 K. From the increase of the SEV's in the order Rb+ (pure sa l t )<Li+ (mixture) < Rb+(mixture) < Li+(pure salt), it is conjectured that there is a strong correlation between the SEV's and the internal mobilities. An interpretation of the Chemla effect in its dependence on temperature is given. The pair correlation functions and the self-diffusion coefficients are also calculated and discussed.

Internal Cation Mobilities in the Molten Binary Systems (Li, Na)Cl and (Na, K)C1

Internal mobility ratios of the two cations in the molten binary systems (Li, Na)Cl and (Na, K)C1 have been measured with Klemm's column method. From these and available data on the densities and conductivities the internal mobilities bLi, bNa and bK have been calculated. In (Li, Na)Cl, bLi is smaller than fcNa in the investigated composition and temperature range, and in (Na, K)C1, the Chemla ...

MD-Simulation of Molten (Li, K)C1 at the Eutectic Composition. Self-Exchange Velocities of Li- and K-Isotopes near the Cl~-Ions

Molecular dynamics simulation (MD) has been done for a molten (Li, K)C1 mixture of the eutectic composition at about 700 K, 950 K and 1100 K and, for comparison, also for pure LiCl and KCl at about 950 K and 1100 K The atomic masses of half the Li and K ions have been set at 6.941 and 39.098, respectively. Self-exchange velocities (SEVs) of these cations have been calculated. The Chemla effect ...

Association in Molten Salts and Mobility Isotherms showing the Chemla Effect

In 1984 a model for additive binary molten salt mixtures had been proposed that allowed for a qualitative understanding of the occurence of the Chemla effect (equal internal mobilities at a certain mixing ratio of the salts). In that model the presence of three ions ( 1 , 2 and 3) and two neutral molecules (4 and 5) consisting of two ions is assumed, and the ratios K\ = x* / x \ x ^ and A'2 = X...

Molten Salts and Isotope Separation

The work on molten salts and isotope separation performed over the years at Université Pierre et Marie Curie and at Collège de France is critically reviewed. This research, closely related to A. Klemm’s pioneering contributions, leads among other things to the discovery of the effect now called the ‘Chemla effect’, after the late Professor Marius Chemla. These studies of ionic motions in melts,...
